from CEO

I intend to put forth every effort to fulfill our mission under our basic idea "Patients First"

I've unexpectedly taken over the CEO post of the Yuasa Foundation from Nobuo Yuasa, who passed away suddenly on June 10th, 2009. I'm not a medical doctor, unlike the former CEO.

I specialized in the code of civil procedure in graduate school, and I entered the Yuasa Foundation in 1987. I'm very conscious that I'm not good enough to take on the burden of CEO, but I'm resolutely prepared to make every effort for the enrichment of community health care, by joining forces with all personnel.

Now, I am planning to do my work under three basic policies described below.

Adherence of our ideal "Patients First"

The basic idea of "Patients First", which has been set up since 1887 by Tamenoshin Yuasa, the founder of Jusendo Hospital, is a sure foothold for our value judgments and actions.

"The spirit of 'the pleasure of a patient is our pleasure' is just the starting point for us" : the words that Nobuo often said, have the same meaning to this idea. As for myself, in very simple terms, I think that "Patients First" is to treat the patients as our immediate family. Recently, quite a number of hospitals advocate similar ideals, but we have been hanging to this ideal over the past century. In the midst of dizzying change of Japanese social security policy, we, the medical institutions are required to have flexibility for responding to the demands of the times.

But, I firmly believe that the idea of "Patients First" will never change even if the times change, moreover, we should not change it.

Inheritance of the former CEO's will

The new Jusendo General Hospital is now under construction as part of the redevelopment plan for the Ekimae-area in Koriyama-city. I believe that it is my most important mission to accomplish. This project is considered "the second foundation" for us.

In our new hospital, we're planning to offer advanced acute-phase treatment, by launching three medical centers such as a vascular disease center.

We intend to provide a model town building in which people can live without anxiety, for around 80 apartments are scheduled to be built above the hospital-zone in the redevelopment building.

To achieve this project successfully, I will make an effort, as much as the former CEO, to increase manpower, especially medial doctors. I will also concentrate my energies to enhance the function for providing comprehensive medical cares, including the sub-acute and chronic phase medicine of Jusendo-Kaguyama Hospital, the prevention medicine of Jusendo Clinic, home medical care and welfare services.

At the same time, I will drive forward partnerships and sharing roles with other medical facilities for the regional alliances.

Continuation as a business entity

Today, about 880 staff members, including part-time jobbers and dispatched workers, are working in the Yuasa Foundation. The number of the staffs is well over 1,000 if we take the staffs of related facilities into account, so I can say that over 3,000 people, including the staffs' families, are laying the livelihood to make their livings on the Yuasa Foundation. Therefore, it is. also my responsibility to preserve this regional entity, and to maintain our employment for the future.

Needless to say, it is necessary for the workers to have a high level of satisfaction with their jobs to improve patients' satisfaction and putting "Patients First" in practice. We, the medical staff cannot give our patient good service with smile, if we don't have peace of mind. I intend to put my effort to make an organizational climate, in which all of our staff can preserve their pride as professionals, and can fulfill our mission by playing their own roles. To this end, I plan to facilitate the communication among types of business, workplaces and ladders. And I also will go ahead the assignment of authority to the medical front and revamps of the system, including the generational shift of top management..

Last of all, though we are facing very severe economic situation, I hope to contribute positively to our community through the assistance of cultural and artistic activities, as our foundation has done for a long time..
